Did you know that infants water intake is actually regulated perfectly by breastfeeding or formula? The American Academy of Pediatrics strongly recommends to breastfeed babies or give them formula at least until the age of 6 months. This means no extra water is needed for a healthy infant.
Many people don’t realize that even breast milk (not alone formula) has a substantial amount of water in it. Have a look at this chart:

Your baby needs energy to grow and develop. Giving infants water would “waste” the baby’s digestive strength on something that doesn’t have extra vitamins and nutrients.
Even if it’s very hot there’s no need for extra water, just extra feeding. The same goes for diarrhea. If it’s a mild case, feed the baby with more breast milk or formula. If it’s a serious case – seek medical assistance. Actually, giving infants water, teas or herbal preparations might cause diarrhea.
When your infant grows into a little baby and starts eating “real food”, you can start giving him some water. When you do, it’s better to stick to water than juice or any other sweet beverages.
Hi everybody,
I’m Tom, a guy who’s interested in many many things. One of them is infants water.
Recently I became a new dad, so the world of babies is now new to me. Since I also like cooking, I’m did some research about baby food: what babies are suppose to eat and drink.
I’ve opened this infants water blog when I discovered little babies should not be drinking water! So when other parents search for information about this subject they will know what I know today.
I’ll be posting some more information on infants water very soon.
